Networks and security with Ubiquiti UniFi
UniFi is the Ubiquiti ecosystem that brings the router, WiFi, switches, cameras, door access and telephony together on one platform. We design, install and configure it in businesses, shops, hotels, residential communities and homes in Valencia.
Domotica Valencia installs and configures the Ubiquiti UniFi ecosystem: Cloud Gateways with firewall and VPN, WiFi 7 and WiFi 6 access points, PoE switches, UniFi Protect cameras and recorders, UniFi Access door control, UniFi Talk telephony and UNAS storage. Everything is managed from a single console, with no manufacturer licences or fees.
Who it is for

UniFi Access door control
Readers, door hubs and intercoms with card, PIN or phone unlock.
Multi-site and support
Remote management of every site, VPN between them, configuration backups and maintenance.
The UniFi ecosystem we install
UniFi covers far more than WiFi. These are the families in Ubiquiti’s current catalogue and what we use each one for.
| Family | What it includes | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud Gateways | Cloud Gateway Ultra, Max and Fiber, Dream Machine Pro, SE and Pro Max, Dream Router 7, UniFi Express 7 and Enterprise Firewall | Router, firewall, VPN and the console that runs the UniFi applications. |
| WiFi | U7 (WiFi 7) and U6 (WiFi 6) ceiling, wall and outdoor access points, and the E7 series for high density | Coverage in offices, hotels, warehouses, homes and outdoors. |
| Switching | Flex, Lite, Standard, Pro, Pro Max and Enterprise switches, with PoE and 2.5, 10 and 25 GbE ports | Wired network, device power and VLAN separation. |
| UniFi Protect | G5, G6 and AI cameras, doorbells, UNVR recorders, sensors and sirens | Video surveillance with local recording and no per-camera licences. |
| UniFi Access | Readers, door hubs, intercoms, gate and elevator control | Door access in offices, communities and premises. |
| UniFi Talk | Desktop and wall-mounted IP phones with touch display | Business telephony in the same console. |
| UNAS storage | Desktop and rack NAS servers with 2 to 16 bays | Shared files and backups on the local network. |
| Power | Tower and rack UPS, redundant power and a switch with battery | Keeping the network and cameras running in a power cut. |
| 5G and LTE | UniFi 5G Max modems and mobile routers | Backup or main connection where fibre does not reach. |
| UISP | Ubiquiti’s line for wireless links and operator networks | Joining buildings or bringing internet to farms and warehouses. |
One console and no licences
The central idea of UniFi is that everything is administered in one place. The Cloud Gateway or console runs the UniFi applications (Network, Protect, Access, Talk and Connect), and from there you see the network, cameras and doors, both on site and remotely.
Ubiquiti states that its platform has no licences or subscriptions and that cloud management has no fees. Camera footage is stored on the local device, not in a paid service. The cost is the equipment and the installation, which is worth knowing when comparing with systems that charge a yearly fee per access point or camera.
When we propose UniFi
It is not the only option. For a complex VPN or a highly configurable router we usually propose MikroTik, and in hotel projects with many rooms we also compare Omada and Ruijie Reyee. We decide with you after seeing the floor plan and real use.
- When network, cameras and door access from one manufacturer in one app are wanted.
- In offices, hotels and shops needing guest WiFi with a portal and separate networks.
- In businesses with several sites that want to see them all in one dashboard.
- In large homes where the operator’s router falls short.
- When yearly licence fees are to be avoided.
How we install it
- Coverage survey on the floor plan and a visit to place the access points.
- Structured cabling and calculation of the PoE power each switch needs.
- Separate VLAN networks for office, guests, cameras, automation and telephony.
- Configuration of the firewall, the VPN and, with two lines, automatic failover.
- Cameras and doors added to Protect and Access, with users and permissions.
- Handover with network documentation, configuration backups and brief training.
Security and maintenance
- Admin account with two-factor authentication and one user per person, no shared passwords.
- Firmware updates reviewed and applied in a controlled way.
- Automatic backups of the console configuration.
- Alerts if a line, an access point or a camera goes down.
- Cameras and access configured in line with data protection law.

Frequently asked questions
Does UniFi have licences or yearly fees?
Ubiquiti states that its platform has no licences or subscriptions and that cloud management has no fees. You pay for the equipment and the installation. The manufacturer’s optional support services are separate.
Do I have to replace my whole network to use UniFi?
No. You can start with the WiFi or the router and expand later. Unified management works best when the gateway, switches and access points are UniFi, but it coexists with other brands.
Can I reuse the cameras I already have?
UniFi Protect supports ONVIF-compatible cameras from other manufacturers as well as its own. Advanced functions, such as number-plate recognition, depend on the camera model.
Does it work if the internet goes down?
The local network, camera recording and door opening keep working, because the console is on your premises. Without internet there is no remote access or phone alerts until the connection returns.
Is it suitable for a home?
Yes. In large homes and villas a compact gateway and several wired access points are used, often with the cameras and doorbell on the same system.
Who manages the network afterwards?
You can see it from the app, and we maintain it if you wish: updates, user changes and troubleshooting, remotely or on site.

The switch is the least visible part of the network and the one that most limits what can be connected. UniFi has more than forty models; they differ in port count, PoE power, speed and functions.
