Automating a holiday rental means letting guests in with temporary codes, controlling climate and consumption remotely, offering reliable WiFi separate from management devices and receiving leak or incident alerts. It reduces the need to be on site and improves the guest experience.
Checklist
- Keyless entry: a code or link valid only during the stay.
- Climate control with temperature limits and switch-off when windows open or guests leave.
- All-off for lights and appliances at check-out.
- Stable guest WiFi on a network separate from the lock, outdoor cameras and automation.
- Water-leak and smoke detectors that alert the manager.
- Consumption metering to spot unusual use.
- Remote access to check status between bookings.
Guest privacy
Cameras must not be installed inside accommodation. If placed at outdoor entrances or shared areas, they must be signposted and comply with data protection law. Door, consumption or leak sensors capture no images.
What technology does not replace
Automation does not remove the property’s obligations, such as guest registration or the applicable licences, nor the need for a responsive person when something goes wrong. Always keep an alternative access plan.
