Akuvox’s 2-wire system reuses the two wires of an old door entry system to carry video, audio and IP data. It consists of 2-wire door stations, 2-wire monitors and a switch that distributes the signal. According to the manufacturer it supports up to 300 metres between devices and allows a phone app with the cloud service.
Which equipment makes up the system?
| Equipment | Model | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Door station | R20A-2, R20K-2 | 2-wire SIP video door station, with or without keypad |
| Single-button station | E12S-2 | For one home or a secondary entrance |
| Indoor monitor | C313W-2 | 2-wire SIP monitor |
| 2-wire switch | NS-2 | Distributes the signal and extends the system |
| Ethernet to 2-wire adapter | NC-2, NX-2 | Connects IP devices or the network to the 2-wire cable |
When does it make sense?
- Buildings with an audio door entry system and crowded or hard-to-rewire risers.
- Communities wanting video, phone opening and notices without work inside the flats.
- Villas with a long old cable between the gate and the house.
- It does not suit an old cable that is damaged or badly spliced: this is checked first.
What do you gain over the old door entry system?
- Video of the caller, not just audio.
- Video calls and door opening from the phone with the Akuvox cloud service.
- Notices from the property manager on the monitor or app.
- Integration with IP cameras and alarm sensors.
- Remote management of the equipment from a browser.
How is the change made in a community?
First the condition of the cable and the number of flats per riser are checked. Then the station and the equipment in the meter room or entrance are replaced, and the handsets are swapped for monitors flat by flat, usually in one or two days per stairwell. Flats that delay changing their handset may be without service for a while, so visits should be organised with the property manager.
