A Matter wireless push-button is a battery wall control using the Matter standard, usually over the Thread radio network, to control lights, blinds or scenes on compatible devices of any brand. It needs a Matter controller and a Thread border router in the home. It is ideal for adding controls where there is no box or cable; JUNG, for example, offers them in its LS 990 and A 550 ranges.
What it needs to work
| Element | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Matter push-button | Sends the command when pressed; runs on a battery. |
| Thread border router | Links the Thread network to the home network. Built into some speakers, gateways and home automation servers. |
| Matter controller | Where each key’s action is set: an assistant’s app, a home automation server or the manufacturer’s gateway. |
| Controlled devices | Matter-compatible lights, sockets, blinds or thermostats, or ones integrated into the controller. |
When it makes sense and when not
- Yes: adding a control by the bed, on a kitchen island or on a glass wall.
- Yes: rented homes or refurbishments where chasing walls is not wanted.
- With care: as the only control in a room, since it depends on the battery and the controller.
- No: in large KNX installations where a wired push-button is more reliable and maintenance-free.
