To control a KNX installation from your phone you need a device that bridges the bus to the network: a visualisation server, such as the Iddero Home Server 3 or the JUNG Smart Visu Server, or an IP display that includes an app. Away from home, access goes through the manufacturer’s cloud or a VPN, never by exposing the KNX bus directly to the internet.
Options
| Option | What it is | Examples | Advantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visualisation server | Dedicated device with phone and tablet app | Iddero Home Server 3, JUNG Smart Visu Server, JUNG Visu Pro | Users, schedules and integration with other systems. |
| IP display | The wall panel also provides the app | Iddero HC3, JUNG Smart Panel 8 | One device for wall and phone. |
| Open home automation server | Platform integrating KNX and other protocols | Home Assistant or others | Joins KNX with Matter, Zigbee or other brands’ devices. |
Secure remote access
- Use the manufacturer’s cloud or a VPN; do not open router ports to the KNX interface.
- If the installation supports it, enable KNX Secure on the IP segment.
- Create one user per person, with permissions for what they need.
- Keep server and display firmware up to date.
