Alarm security grade: 2 or 3

When you ask for a quote for a monitored alarm, the grade question always comes up. This guide explains what it means and which usually applies.

Domotica Valencia · Updated:

In short

The security grade measures an alarm system’s resistance to tampering under the European standard EN 50131. In Spain, systems connected to a monitoring centre must meet a minimum grade by risk: grade 2 for homes and small shops and grade 3 for regulated, higher-risk premises. The security company confirms the required grade in each case.

What changes between grade 2 and 3

  • Stronger protection against tampering and detector masking.
  • Stricter supervision of communications and power.
  • Detectors, keypads and panels certified for that grade.
  • Maintenance and inspections under private security regulations.

This summary is indicative. Monitoring is provided by licensed security companies, which determine the grade required for each installation and carry out mandatory maintenance.
